VR TRAFFIC SCENARIO

Programs used: Unity & C#

This project is part of my thesis project at the University of Ulm and currently in process. Not only am I proud of the work I've done so far, but also I am thankful for all it has taught me to become a better coder. The following topics are of interest in this project:

PEDESTRIANS

Pedestrians are vulnerable road users (VRUs) who are vulnerable to other agents in traffic, such as cars.

PERSONS WITH HEARING DISABILITIES

My project focuses on pedestrians with hearing disabilities, and the difficulties they have to overcome in traffic.

AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES

This thesis focuses on interaction between pedestrians and AVs.

GROUP SIZE

How groups of people crossing traffic, as a group, and the social effects in behavior are also of interest.

Yes, the project will be using VR!

CURRENT PHASE: PRE-STUDY

This survey will look into some possible visual external Human-Machine Interfaces (eHMI), in order to understand which visual cue is the most appealing and easily understood by pedestrians. As the literature in this field has many contradictions, having a pre-study with empirical results is of importance. The results in turn will be used for the next phase of the thesis project: the proper layout of the traffic scenario.

Interested in taking the pre-study? (it only takes 5 minutes!)  https://surveys.informatik.uni-ulm.de/limesurvey/index.php/359315?lang=en

Below, are a few of the different visual eHMI I have designed, using inspiration from literature.
